If you are new to our studio, we would like to share some of our philosophies with you to help you better understand our focus when working with your child. Our first goal is to have each student understand the powerful impact and influence the performing arts can have in their lives by teaching them coordination, technique, artistry, self-expression, self-esteem, and responsibility. Working hand-in-hand with this goal is our effort to teach our students that they can utilize their talents to benefit the lives of others. Teaching them to look beyond themselves, and use dance as a means to bless the lives of those in need. In past years we have raised money for a young dancer with Spina Bifida who dreamed of dancing on stage, Autism, and last year we were abundantly blessed as we joined the Brailsford family on their difficult journey with cancer. Each experience has left us changed for the better, and we have memories of cherished moments we will never forget.
This year after much reflection, we have chosen a cause that we feel every child can relate to. We are joining up with The Christmas Box House. The Christmas Box House is an emergency shelter and assessment center for children who have been abused, neglected, or abandoned. It services children from infants to the age of 18. The Christmas Box House offers children mental, emotional, and physical care in a home-like, loving environment.
Partnering with the Christmas Box House, our students will have opportunities to reach out to these children in many ways. Dancers ages 12 and up will be able to volunteer to go to the house and share their love of dance with these children. Other students will have the opportunity to perform at fundraising events, donate new/like new toys, dance clothes, clothing, books etc. As a studio, we will be donating all funds raised at our yearly benefit concert in February and other events through the year to the House. There will be options throughout our season for every student who wishes to do something to help out. We are very excited for this incredible opportunity for our children to help other children.
When a child enters the home, they are greeted by a year-round Christmas Tree and are able to choose a gift from under the tree. In the coming weeks, we will be placing a special Christmas Tree in our lobby. Throughout the year, feel free to place “gifts” under our tree to be donated to The Christmas Box House. These gifts can be new/like new dance clothing/shoes for those children who wish to dance with us, toys, books, clothing, any items you feel you would like to donate. We will also be accepting cash donations, these donations are tax deductible. We invite our dancers to find ways to work for their donations, we all know that we learn more and appreciate more when we put our heart in our gifts.
We are excited to announce our first event with The Christmas Box House will be September 24. We will be participating in the Kids Fest Guardian Angel 5k/1k Run/Walk at Sugarhouse Park at 8am. You can register to run the 5k for $25.00/ Kids can register to run the 1k for $5.00 and one new back to school clothing basic. A few of our performing companies will also be asked to perform. We would love to have many of our Pointe family there to support. We are excited for this fun kick off to what we know will be a memorable experience for all who wish to participate!
